Dio was such a powerful vocalist and those heavy riffs and determined playing style of Tony Iommi and the powerful heavy rhythm section of drummer Vinnie Appice and bassist Geezer Butler interact like a great organic machine. The musicianship is impeccable as expected. "Children of the Grave" is the only other track on "Live Evil" from any of the other Ozzy Osbourne-led Black Sabbath albums. However about half the setlist are tracks from the first two albums by the band, which includes tracks like "Iron Man", "War Pigs", "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid". The setlist naturally focuses on tracks from the Dio-led Black Sabbath albums, "Heaven and Hell (1980)" and "Mob Rules (1981)", which were at the time the most recent releases by the band. The touring band featured the same lineup that recorded "Mob Rules (1981)". The 14 tracks on the album were recorded at two concerts in Seattle in April 1982, one concert in Dallas in May 1982 and at one concert in San Antonio in May 1982. After the first 2 minutes however the track begins to feel slightly stale and repetitive in its live form. Heaven and Hell is given particular attention with the addition of a 7-minute guitar solo. Both tracks sound mammoth live and are as good as the studio versions. Some notables from the record include the furious Neon Knights and Children of the Sea – both from the Heaven and Hell album. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio’s voice provide sustainable and energetic live showmanship and displays true testament to the live performances of Black Sabbath. The live versions on this album are very impressive – almost album quality. The record contains substantial live offerings from the studio albums Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell. The album captures evenly both Ronnie James Dio and Ozzy Osbournes years with Black Sabbath giving Dio the chance to tackle and master some of the tracks that made this band a success before his induction. Originally released in the UK back in 1983 all of the tracks on the album were recorded at concerts held in Dallas, San Antonio and Seattle on the Mob Rules Tour which ran between November 81′ and August 82′. Live Evil is Black Sabbath’s first sanctioned live record. This week saw the re-release of deluxe packaged versions of several Black Sabbath albums.
